Hairstyles of 2025
2025’s hair trends are all about variety and personalization, blending timeless luxury with a touch of pop star glamour and effortless bohemian chic. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure journey, leading to standout styles that highlight individuality.
Recent years have emphasized that the best beauty carries a personal touch. This season offers a spectrum of shaggy layers—hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos highlights their DIY appeal—subtle baby lights, and relaxed, lived-in cuts. These styles present an alternative to more elaborate options, allowing for as much or as little maintenance as desired. At the same time, sleek updos, playful pixies, and deep, rich brunettes exude a sophisticated elegance—yet remain effortlessly chic. The overarching theme is one of effortless refinement, making even the most casually styled looks appear deliberate and cool.
Here, 5 hair trends that will define 2025.
Relaxed Styling
Thanks to the resurgence of boho fashion—the Isabel Marant look is making a comeback, bringing with it studs, ruffles, and fringe—2025 is embracing mussed styling as its answer to the bouncy blowout (which, rest assured, is here to stay). Editorial stylist Gonn Kinoshita anticipates a demand for undone, effortless styles, capturing that coveted “I woke up like this” vibe.
2. Shaggy Layers
Shaggy layers combine texture, volume, and movement, making them essential for 2025. Their charm lies in versatility. "You can keep them messy and undone for an edgy look or style them sleek for a more polished appearance," says Giannetos. He highlights that these layers enhance natural wave and curl patterns, making them perfect for air drying. "Moreover, as the cut grows out, it maintains its shape beautifully and requires minimal maintenance between trims."
3. Lived-In Colour
Appleton concurs. “Clients are definitely leaning towards that lived-in look for color and highlighting,” he explains, highlighting soft-shadow roots as a popular, low-maintenance option. Giannetos adds that baby lights—tiny, strategically placed ribbons of color—also provide an effortless boost. “They blend seamlessly, require fewer touch-ups, and grow out naturally for an effortlessly polished look,” he says.
4. Polished Updos
While much of this year's trends focus on minimalistic styling, the refined updo remains timeless. Giannetos notes that recent red carpet events showcase the polished updo's return (if it ever truly left). "When I hear 'demure,' this look immediately comes to mind," he says. "Very sleek, very polished, very demure."
5. Curtain Bangs
Parted, generous, blended curtain bangs are here to stay and are predicted to be one of the most sought-after styles of the year. “This trend is rapidly gaining popularity for 2025,” says Appleton, crediting the look to Sabrina Carpenter's iconic bombshell beauty. “For those seeking a low-maintenance style at their next salon visit, these wispy bangs are an excellent choice!”
